Why I Write
I started this blog not because I had something profound to say, but because I wanted to learn more effectively.
Writing as Thinking
There's a quote often attributed to Flannery O'Connor: "I write because I don't know what I think until I read what I say." That captures it perfectly.
When I try to explain something in writing, the gaps in my understanding become painfully obvious. That's the point. Writing forces clarity.
The Compound Effect
Every post I write becomes a reference I can come back to. Six months from now, when I've forgotten the details of how something works, I'll have my own explanation waiting — written in my own words, at my own level of understanding.
Getting Started
If you've been thinking about starting a blog, here's my advice: just start. Don't worry about having an audience. Don't worry about being original. Write for yourself first.
The best time to start writing was a year ago. The second best time is today.
